JIM EMMONS CDT,FNBC
Graduated Elkhart
University December 1962- first in class & highest grade point average
ever attained at the school
Worked in private
practice Dr. A.R. Weprin Dayton Ohio . Made first technical contribution
there with the development of casting stainless steel palettes into the
aluminum clutches for the Stuart articulator pantograph. (Before that they
were made of brass & would
develop a gothic arch track/ groove in the brass palette. - That
would then guide the patient & give a false pantograph
tracing). I went on to establish J.D. Emmons Ceramic Studio ,Inc. In 1966
in Dayton, Ohio. over the next 14 years I bought two smaller labs (to get
the help ) & then a larger lab which brought us to 32 people.
During this time I also continued my education at Ohio State University
& then University of Dayton research Institute where I completed a
10.000 unit study on ceramic bonded to metal substrates-1974 / 1980. I
worked with Dr. Jack Halstead & Dr. Frank Bustillo in Dayton
pioneering the first ceramic coated implant frames in 1978. During this
time I found a way to fire high strength / high density porcelain in 1 1/2
minutes using a RF drying oven. Pretty amazing really,
the whole cycle took only 4 1/2 minutes start to finish.
Around 1978/ 1980 I
started making a surgical grade alloy that is non corrosive in the body -
It is still in use today. Then I developed a no fire opaque hardener,
A build up liquid , which I improved upon in the early 1990’s. Developed
an air brush opaque system - liquids & all items that go with it. Then
a .Wet Palette humidor system (after I developed the clay formula that
wouldn’t contaminate the porcelain. I patented the Emmons attachment in
1984 & the "in the oven" at 1700 casting investment with
Prevest in 1984 the indexing model trimmer wheel in 1985, The Life Essence
Porcelain system patented in 1993.
Laminate repair paste
investment in 1995, I receive the Harry Hageman Inventors Award in 1990
& was awarded my NBC Fellowship for my study (4500+ actual hours)
“Managing Prismatic Color in Light (in teeth) June 1996
Developed the prismatic stain palette in 1995
added the companion Dr. chair side (air drying) stain palette in
1999. Both palettes use identical pigments.
Am currently working on a new porcelain system “Spectrafire MIcro
E” with Won Chul Lee / Soul Korea. the system is formulated on prismatic
color management & illumination.
I
have a small ceramic laboratory in Richardson Texas / Do courses on light
& color in cosmetic ceramics/ . My main goal is to have made a
positive difference.
